The outstanding Central-Eastern European variety: Kékfrankos

Wojciech Bońkowski MW (15:00 – 15:45 Tuesday, 12th March)

The growing interest in Central-Eastern European grape varieties is clearly visible on the world market. Although there is a wide range of varieties, one of the most important is undoubtedly Kékfrankos. Known as Blaufränkisch in Austria, it is also grown in smaller quantities in the Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, Slovakia and Slovenia. More than half of the total area planted with Kékfrankos, however, is in Hungary, where several wine regions produce wines that are diverse in nature and winemaking style, but still highlight the uniqueness of the variety. The course led by Wojciech Bońkowski Master of Wine will present six Hungarian Kékfrankos from four different wine districts.
