Only dry red wine with a protected designation of origin can be marketed under the brand name Egri Bikavér. Bikavér is the world famous red wine of the region, a blend of at least 4 different red base wines, where the rate of Kékfrankos has to be between 30-65%. The base wines have to be matured separately in barrels for at least six months, followed by further ageing in bottles. There are three different quality levels of Egri Bikavér by law: Classic, Superior and Grand Superior.
