The Villány wine region already has a stable foundation for its development: respect for tradition, a desire to improve, diligence and enthusiasm. The total area of Hungary’s southernmost wine region, with its sub-Mediterranean climate, is only 4,500 hectares, of which only 2,300 hectares are currently under vine. It is also one of the most densely planted wine regions. Loess and clay soils rich in organic matter and chalk are typical throughout the region. The areas around Siklós are richer in calcium, which favours wines with higher acidity. Thanks to the unique terroir, climate and creative winemakers of the wine region, wines made from 100% Cabernet Franc – in the premium and super premium categories – are called Villányi Franc. We are honoured to have this elegant wine as the flagship of the wine region.
